我知道这马上就可以算是一个老生常谈的问题了,但是我还是很疑惑,看过一些中文的费雯丽传记,很多是回避了这个问题的,但是在一本英文生平介绍里有这样的文字
“Her father, Ernest Hartley, was born in Yorkshire England in 1883, and had moved to India at the age of 22 in search of a career and adventure. He became involved with a brokerage firm, spent time racing horses, and acted in The Calcutta Dramatic Society. Vivien's mother, Gertrude Yackjee, although from Irish descendants, was also born in Darjeeling India, in 1888. Friends of the Hartleys said that Gertrude, with her dark hair, blue eyes, and peach-like skin (traits Vivien would inherit), was very beautiful in her youth, more so than Vivien. The Yackjee side of the family also had Armenian descendants which may have influenced Vivien's dark Eastern looks.”
还有很多英文网站上有讨论费雯丽的血统,他们甚至提出了她没有爱尔兰血统,而有印度血统等等的说法
下面是一些讨论的原文
“Vivian Leigh’s mother was rumoured to be of Irish descent, as her maiden name was ‘Yackjee’, which sounds pretty Irish. There’s also rumour’s of her mother’s side of the family having some Indian blood too.”
“Viven’s father was English and her mother Anglo-Indian. Viven’s mother was adopted by a family called Yackjee, so no conclusions about her ancestry can be drawn from the surname she used”
“Yackjee is a Parsee name. The Parsees are Indians of Persian origin. A typical Parsee is Freddy Mercury of Queen”
“Vivien Leigh's mother, Gertrude Yackjee, seems to have been half Irish and half Armenian or Indian.
A quick Google search shows that the name Yackjee usually appears with Christian/Western given names, is most often found in Bengal (the center of Armenian settlements in India was Calcutta), and is shown in passenger manifests of British ships going from Persia to India. Many of the Armenian "merchant princes" who settled in India were Armenians who had been exiled to Persia by Shah Abbas at the beginning of the 17th century.
So I think Vivien Leigh's mother was of Armenian ancestry, and the name Yackjee may be an Anglicization of the Armenian name "Khachig" which means "the cross." ”
“The researcher who wrote the article speculates that her ancestry may not have been Indian but Afghani”
